Although, if you want to experience the trip with all your senses, what you have to do is follow a bumpy dirt road (a car is required) from the village of Kaliviani and continue on foot from the parking lot for 2 kms. You will then be astounded by the magic that will be unveiled before your eyes, when you look at the out-of-this-world, almost lunar landscape of Ballos.
A paradise on earth, with opalescent pink sand created by shards of shells and warm water. The entire area is protected by the NATURA program of the EU, as a region of utmost beauty.
The Megara Archaeological Museum opened in 2-4-2000 to house the antiquities that come from the digs of the city and the surrounding area.
The Museum of the Battle of Crete and National Resistance 1941-45 Municipality of Heraklion was founded and operates from May 1994.
