The entrance to the gorge is at the small village of Imbros. We start our hike descending on an easy terrain. But soon, the canyon narrows, the sidewalls raise higher and the scenery is getting more and more impressive. Later the sides of the canyon start approaching and getting higher, until we reach the most imposing part of the Gorge, called Stenada. Here the walls approach at 1.6m, while their height reaches 300m! In many parts we find ourselves walking on the old stone paved road that was once the main passage from Sfakia to Chania.
We need 2-3 hours to reach the exit of the gorge at Komitades village.
