The “star” location of the prefecture is Platanias, 11km west of the center of Chania, where the largest number of people can de found, from Scandinavian tourists to locals. If you can’t manage to find a chair, spread your towel on the golden sand. As for the shallow waters, they are perfect for risk free games.
The exhibits of the Mycenae Archaeological Museum come from Mycenae and the spots that have been investigated in the surrounding areas and are accompanied by explanatory material, such as information, identification tabs of the exhibits, maps, drawings and recreations.
The Fountain of the Lions or "Lions" is one of the central parts of the city. It is well known except by locals and foreigners. The fountain was built in 1628 by General Provisioner Francesco Morosini to help supply water to the city, which suffered from water scarcity.
The Amfiareio was the biggest ancient Greek sanctuary of the vile god and hero of Argos Amfiaraos. During its’ operation, it was the national sanctuary of Oropos, one of the oldest cities in Ancient Greece.
