Although, if you want to experience the trip with all your senses, what you have to do is follow a bumpy dirt road (a car is required) from the village of Kaliviani and continue on foot from the parking lot for 2 kms. You will then be astounded by the magic that will be unveiled before your eyes, when you look at the out-of-this-world, almost lunar landscape of Ballos.
The catholicon of venetian Monastery of San Francesco accomodate the Archaeological Museum of Chania. As Archaeological Museum was opened in 1963.

The katholikon of St. Francis monastery was one of the greatest temples of Venetian Candia. When Candia fell to the Turks in 1669, the temple was converted into an imperial mosque dedicated to Muhammad the Conqueror, the conqueror of Constantinople.
