The Museum of Photography of Thessaloniki aims to operate as a place of memories, meetings and discovery between the creators, their creations and the audience.
The collection and the archives of the museum are comprised of more than 100.000 photography related objects. In the archives that cover the time span from 1890-1980, one can find works of Socrates Iordanides, Giannis Stylianos and Dimitris Letsios, while the museum is the trustee of the greek part of Fred Boissonnas, τwhich belongs to O.P.E.P. Concerning the collections which were obtained by purchasing and offers, they cover the time period from 197o until today, and contain more than 2000 creations of various contributors from Greece and abroad.
Among its important activities, is the organization of exhibitions (50 annualy in the museum and in other spaces) with an intent to promote Greek and international photography, as well as to show the different uses and approaches to it. The exhibitions are split in exhibition cycles: “Eye to the city”,”Great creators”,”Greeks abroad”,”The 4 elements and man” etc.
Every two years, the museum organizes the Internation Festival of Photography Photobiennale, an evolution of a previous 20 year olf fair, displaying more than 25 exhibitions in 30 places around Thessaloniki, with the participation of artists from Greece and abroad, as well as organising the portfolio reviews with the participation of 20 experts on photography from around the world, the prizes, (Cedefop prize/ Museum of Photography of Thessaloniki, Pilsner Urquell prize), masterclasses, meetings, workshops and parallel events. During the Photobiennale exhibitions of the museum are displayed in other cities around Greece.
The MPT also has training programmes, with special motivators, which are targeted towards students and teachers of any age, aiming to promote photo culture in Greece.
The MPT is also active in organizing lectures such as the discussion meetings «Words and Images in the Museum», where photographers, art critics, collectors, representatives of cultural institutions from Greece and abroad, discuss about photography.

The Toplou Monastery is historical and dates back to its inception in the 15th century. Collapsed by an earthquake in 1612 and was rebuilt with the financial assistance of the Venetians.
The Historical and Folklore Museum of Rethymno is housed in a 17th century Venetian mansion.
The Asclepium was since the ancient times the most famous monument of Kos. It was located close to the ancient city, and was full of marvelous statues, works of famous artists.
